Pakistan Govt. Launches 6 Initiatives To Control Environmental Degradation

INTRODUCTION

The Government of Pakistan is putting efforts to act as an environmentally conscious state. The Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has presented a Clean Green Pakistan Vision. Under this vision there are six initiatives that have been launched around the country in order to prevent environmental degradation. WHAT ARE THESE SIX INITIATIVES AND WHAT ARE THEIR AIMS?

According to Ministry of climate change, the six initiatives have been launched in Pakistan. These six initiatives have come up with objectives to reduce the impacts of climate change by increasing climate resilience through adaptive and mediatory measures.

SIX INITIATIVES BY GOVERNMENT OF PAKISTAN

The six initiatives started by the Government of Pakistan are listed below. What deserves utmost attention here is that Pakistan contributes to less than one percent in global emissions of greenhouse gases yet extremely vulnerable to the consequences of climate change.

1. 10 BILLION TREE TSUNAMI PROJECT (TBTTP)

This project has been initiated following Billion Trees Afforesttaion Project. The aim of this project is to provide job opportunities to the unemployed youth and restore the landscape. On general scale, this project will help tackle climate change such as lowering chances of floods and droughts, reducing greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, and preserving biodiversity.

2. ECO-SYSTEM RESTORATION FUND INITIATIVE (ESRF)

Another effective initiative started by the Government of Pakistan is the Ecosystem restoration initiative. The aim of this project is to make a financially stable system that would promote biodiversity conservation and afforestation in the country.

3. RECHARGE PAKISTAN PROJECT

This initiative has been launched with an aim to protect water reserves in Pakistan as well as communities that are at risk of experiencing devastating consequences of climate change and environmental gradation. It includes water resource management, ecosystem restoration-based adaptive approaches, etc. Moreover, this initiative has been implemented with supported projects such as Green Climate Fund, Glacial Lake Outburst Flood, and Climate Resilient Agriculture project. These projects aim to promote sustainable agriculture practices and the sustenance of farmers.

4. CLEAN GREEN MOVEMENT AND NATIONAL ELECTRIC VEHICLE POLICY

The clean green movement aims to save the environment by improving waste management and sanitation facilities. The national electric vehicle policy is aiming to reduce greenhouse gases emissions by promoting electric vehicles in the country. 5. PROTECTED AREA MANAGEMENT AND CPEC INITIATIVE

This project has been launched with an aim to protect a land area of 7295.549 Square kilometers across the country. The marine protected areas include wetlands reserves and national parks. 6. GREEN ECONOMIC STIMULUS

The green economic stimulus could be defined as tackling the economic crisis with environmental sustainability. The government of Pakistan has launched a green economic stimulus during the COVID-19 pandemic. Many people lost their source of livelihood. In such an ongoing case, the aim of this initiative is to provide a livelihood to youth and daily wagers by environmentally friendly actions especially in waste management and forestry departments.

CONCLUSION

The whole world is witnessing the severe impacts of climate change. Recent extreme weather events all around the world are major examples of climate change. Pakistan is also included among countries that are most likely to experience negative consequences of climate change. Developing and underdeveloped countries do not enough resources to tackle the impacts of climate change. In such a scenario, the initiatives launched by the Government of Pakistan are really appreciated.
