Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister of Punjab Pakistan has announced more forests in the vicinity of Lahore. The announcement made after the successful implementation of Miyawaki Urban Forest in Lahore. Almost 51 new forests will be developed across the congested area of Lahore where there is the utmost need for plants to assist in reducing the environmental pollution. According to the news, the Miyawaki forests grow very fast as compared to the conventional method of growing forests. The growth rate of the Miyawaki forest is 10 times higher and 30 times denser than natural forests.

According to reported news, Miyawaki Urban Forest was initiated by the Government of Pakistan in January. A focal person to Chief Minister of Punjab, Azhar Mashwani briefed about the successful plantation of 10,000 plant species in Lahore. More than 45 native species of plants were selected and planted in the area of 8 Kanal. This plantation was carried out at liberty in Lahore. Now further 50 more forests are being supposed to grow by the Miyawaki forests technique at different locations in Lahore. Some locations where Miyawaki Forests have been grown include canals, Jilani Park, Liberty market, and Jalloo park.

The Miyawaki Forest is the most suitable way to increase forest area in populous cities. This technique is based on the method of Japanese Botanists. In this forest growing method, the distance between native plant seeds is minimized so that the growing plants only receive sunlight from the top and grow upward. It grows into dense forests within the specified area.

The environmental benefits associated with Miyawaki forests are huge. 10 Billion Tree Tsunami project reported that the growing process doesn’t require the use of pesticides, chemicals, and fertilizers. These forests produce 30 times more oxygen. The carbon dioxide absorption capacity is 40 times higher than natural forests. Also, the Miyawaki forests are 22 times more environmental friendly.

The Government of Pakistan is planning to implement this pilot project across Punjab. Due to more agricultural areas in Punjab, the smog problem is very common in major cities of Pakistan. So far the Miyawaki urban forests project has remained successful.

On 12 February Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, launched the Miyawaki Urban Forest at Jilani Park Lahore, Pakistan.
